FILMS:
The Matrix   --   1999   (US)

Scene: Woman in Red Dress
Clubbed To Death [ Kurayamino Variation ]

The Matirx Soundtrack alblum has introduced Rob Dougan's "Clubbed To Death" to the world audience. It was a music advisor, Jason Bentley (DJ), who recommended this song to the Wachowski Bros.

(There are several variations and remix of "Clubbed To Death." In the Matrix OST, Rob Dougan was listed as Rob D.

In this scene, the music is played low, but it is a very important scene where Morpheus explains Neo how the Matrix (virtual reality) works.
The Matrix Reloaded   --   2003   (US)

Scene: The Fight Against Agents
Furious Angels [ instrumental ]

This tune starts with slow and heavy strings, then develops into a upbeat, high-energy dance tune.  Should you feel there is something missing, yes, gorgeous 40-people chorus, and haunting voice of Joy Malcolm and Rob Dougan himself are omitted from the original song!  Hence it's a cool fighting scene, that's all right.

By the way, this instrumental version was played in a special premiere event in Roppongi Hills (Japan) while many celebrities were seated -- like one hour?

Scene: Fighting in a Chateau
Chateau

This song appears as if it was arranged of "Furious Angels," but it is an origianl song specially written for the film. According to a magazine interivew, Rob Dougan wrote this song on his Mac laptop. He had received a DVD which contained only the fighting scene for the music. In order to sync the timing, he had to press the play button of computer with his hand, while he started the DVD player with his foot... (Read more of the article)

Additional Note: The film version of this song is NOT the final version -- the 2nd final version was used for the film somehow. But the final version is similar to this 2nd final, anyway, according to the artist. (source: himself @ the official site)

Thrilling fighting scene in the chateau.

The "Final" Theatrical Trailer
I'm Not Driving Anymore [ instrumental ]

Just before the film release, this beautiful "final" trailer was introduced. Though this emotional song highlighted the middle part of the trailer, it wasn't used in the film, thus it wasn't included in the soundtrack allbum. This instrumental version is on 2nd CD of the US and the new UK release.

Extra Note:

The Wachowski brothers phoned to Rob Dougan to ask him to collaborate with Don Davis for Animatrix music ("Final Flight of Osiris" - theatrically released). But Davis's first draft was good enough to leave as is.

There is something magical in this piece: stunningly beautiful and smooth visuals and music. It starts with piano and a piano player (as the music start with the piano), then the camera pulls out to reveal the panoramic world with special effects. (So, who is that pianist?)
